F.E.A.R. The Four-Step Method to Unleashing Fear in a Co-Worker

Last updated on January 19, 2023

This foolproof method to unlocking fear was originally developed in 1970 when FEAR Incorporated was hired by the leadership team at the American automotive manufacturer, AMC. AMC engaged FEAR because they feared they would never match the “big three” in share of sales and needed a solution. At the time this was the largest company FEAR Incorporated had worked with and we were in need of a simple yet sharply effective process that could be followed by the many different departments of a big corporation. To say F.E.A.R. was a success within the walls of AMC is an understatement. Fearing they would lose out to Ford, Chrysler and GM in the sub-compact race, we focused F.E.A.R. on their design team and were quickly rewarded with the poorly designed Gremlin that many call the worst car design in history of car design. After the Gremlin we concentrated all of F.E.A.R.’s effort on the design unit and they didn’t disappoint when they released the Pacer in 1975 to equally poor reviews. After proving the success of F.E.A.R., FEAR Incorporated were put on retainer and stayed with the AMC leadership until their bankruptcy in 1987. More recently the F.E.A.R. method has been credited with the failure of a digital music player in 2011 and just a few months ago was called into action by one of the largest social media platforms.

Since our successful venture with AMC, we have began every new client relationship with F.E.A.R. We have found it is the best way to help leadership understand that every person on their team is unique. Each wired to react to fear differently. While some will respond well and crumble under the pressure of constant criticism, there will be others who will thrive when faced with fear. It is why F.E.A.R. has become the go-to technique for those looking to unlock fear in any type of worker. The foundation to this flawless system is in the art of concentrating on the person rather than the fear you want to create. The method is designed to break down your target to their most vulnerable state so that the fears they are most naturally susceptible to feeling will take root and blossom. The natural beauty of the F.E.A.R. technique is that the fears triggered will be authentic to the individual and more apt to aggravate their deepest insecurities.

These are the four steps of F.E.A.R.

1. Focus on flaws

2. Eliminate support

3. Always Alienate

4. Repeat incessantly
